Man in the Wild – solo sea kayak, Iceland and elsewhere.
Film with live music – and lecture.
A special tour in Iceland in November: 2 Musicians from The Netherlands play live music to a film that was shot from a sea kayak around Iceland’s wild coasts.
Jaco Benckhuijsen is a solo sea kayaker and musician from The Netherlands. He made many long solo trips along the coasts of Iceland, Greenland, Papua, Cape Horn, Mauritania and Alaska.
From his travels, around Iceland, Jaco made a film and composed music to it. Together with percussionist Joost Lijbaart (also from The Netherlands), he now brings the film, with live music, to Iceland. In a one-hour concert with piano, electronics and percussion, the film images and live music bring you the beauty and wonders of the wild seas, as seen from a tiny kayak. Images come from the Westfjords, Snaefellsnes, and the South Coast.
Before the concert, Jaco will give an introduction lecture (in English), with over 200 pictures, on his travels around the world, the people he met, and the practical side of his adventures.
Swells of piano sounds, wavy grooves and electronic soundscapes are improvised to images of black lava beaches, skies reflected by the ocean’s surface and storms that turn the sea into moving mountains.
